Au Bon Climat Wild Boy Chardonnay
€34.99
Jim Clendenen, the man and mind behind Au Bon Climat, was all set for a career in law when a trip to Burgundy inspired him to change his plans forever. In 1982 he set up the winery Au Bon Climat, now often referred to as just ‘ABC’, which is today one of California’s most celebrated wineries. Clendenen is often thought of as a winemaker who is Burgundian in his sensibility yet resolutely Californian in style.
Au Bon Climat ‘Wild Boy’ Chardonnay (with the winemaker himself illustrated on the label) is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in Santa Barbara. Golden straw in colour, an attractive nose reveals notes of citrus, ripe stone fruit, toast and a hint of smoke. Rich and creamy in texture, the palate is concentrated and generous with an abundance of layered ripe fruit and harmoniously integrated oak. Crisp and focused on the finish, this wine is perfect to be enjoyed alongside truffle risotto, roast chicken or chanterelle mushrooms.
